State Unveils Excelsior Scholarship

The Excelsior Scholarship, a first-in-the-nation program that provides free tuition at New York’s public colleges and universities—including Buffalo State—was recently announced as part of the 2018 state budget. The ambitious program was proposed by Governor Andrew Cuomo in his 2017 State of the State address.

The Excelsior Scholarship plan will be phased in over three years: qualified students from households earning up to $100,000 annually will be eligible in fall 2017; this threshold will increase to $110,000 in 2018 and to $125,000 in 2019.

Additional information, eligibility requirements, and frequently asked questions about the Excelsior Scholarship can be found on the New York State Higher Education Services Corporation website, hesc.ny.gov.
