National Volunteer of the Year

Daisy “Estelle” Anderson, B.S. ’51, was named Volunteer of the Year by Catholic Charities USA. The national award recognizes her work with the Ladies of Charity over more than 30 years, where she has sewed and assembled layettes for new mothers. In an article about the award, Buffalo News reporter Barbara O’Brien called Anderson an “accomplished quilter, crocheter, and seamstress.”

One of her quilts is in the permanent collection at the Burchfield Penney Art Center. Anderson, who graduated with a bachelor of science degree in consumer and family studies, was also a member of Phi Upsilon Omicron sorority, a national honor society in family and consumer sciences.
