‘Ellen’ Rewards Alum for Good Deed

Earlier this year, Tracey Tong, B.A. ’15, was riding a New York City subway train when she overheard someone verbally attacking a fellow passenger who was wearing a hijab. Tong interceded and diffused the situation by asking all passengers to respect one another. The incident was captured on video, which caught the attention of Ellen DeGeneres. The talk show host invited Tong onto the ‘Ellen’ show, saying, “I saw this video and I needed to bring her here to say thank you.” DeGeneres then presented Tong with a check for $10,000 for her good deed. Tong’s ‘Ellen’ appearance can be viewed at ellen.tv/2pb5A3t.
